instagram accounts
in today's society, social media has become a centralized part of many young people's lives. social media is a place that's often known for the impossible standards it can set, which i'm planning to address in a future post. but today, i want to recognize the accounts that make me genuinely feel good.
1. @w.riting
this account is one of the few larger recycled poetry/text based accounts that isn't overrun with advertisements (despite their claim for cheap shoutouts in their bio) or isn't filled with what i consider to be superficial poetry. @w.riting is a place where i know i can always find something that inspires me to be myself, to better myself, or to look forward to the future. not only do they post on their account, but also put many similar posts from other accounts on their story. i always love seeing their posts on my feed because i know i can have a refreshing break from the overwhelming pressure that often accompanies mindless scrolling.
another poetry account, but all i have to say is wow. @alison.malee writes straight from the soul. her pictures are not only well-written but aesthetically pleasing. many of her poems are simple, but carry an unexplainable weight that sincerely makes me feel. her poems inspire me to look at the little things in life, and to always keep a poem in the back of my mind. something that i especially love is that her poetry isn't limited to just the image--it often spills over into the captions on those same posts. additionally, she has been working on some big projects lately, and i am so excited to watch her thrive and to someday get around to purchasing a copy of her book for myself.
3. @zenpencils
i first found this account's comics while i was browsing pinterest, and was immediately struck with how intelligent and inspiring they were. gavin aung than, or @zenpencils, has one of the brightest minds i've had the privilege to gain insight to. his works are never just present. they are heavy with life and meaning, overflowing with complex ideas expressed through simple comics. his art style compliments the dialogue perfectly. with such a perfect combination of words and art, it's a wonder he's not more well known. i for one will always enjoy reading every new post that graces my feed. i would highly recommend if you are looking for an elevated set of ideas to really make you think.
4. @_picolo
gabriel picolo's art is something my eyes will never get tired of seeing. i adore the simplicity of his brush strokes, the easy emotions portrayed through an art style that is so vibrant and full of life you will feel like you're looking at a moment in time captured in a brilliant snapshot. the outlining is sharp and refreshing, the coloring simple, keeping the attention focused on the action of the image. i absolutely adore his style. possibly his most famous series is his rendition of icarus and the sun, portraying icarus as an angel made of candle wax in love with the flame. he recently launched an indiegogo campaign for a full book based around this concept, and i managed to snag one, along with three original prints! i will never get tired of his art and i'm more than happy to support him in the future.
i hope that this inspires you to look at the accounts you follow and ask yourself if they bring you joy. these are the accounts i most look forward to seeing every day, and i recommend you check them out!
love, sarah. ♡
